Community innovators and cooperative representatives from 19 African countries showcase nature-based solutions at the Africa Community-to-Community Exchange 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Kigali Hosts Africa Community-to-Community Exchange 2025: Showcasing Grassroots Innovation for a Greener Future

In the heart of Rwanda’s vibrant capital, a movement was in full bloom. Over 150 innovators, farmers, and cooperative leaders from 19 African nations gathered at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village for the Africa Community-to-Community Exchange 2025 — a landmark gathering celebrating Africa’s local ingenuity, environmental stewardship, and the unstoppable spirit of its people.

For two transformative days, the air buzzed with ideas and inspiration. The event became a living showcase of community-led innovation — where rural farmers and cooperatives stood shoulder to shoulder with policymakers, conservationists, and investors, all united by one vision: to build a sustainable and resilient Africa driven by its own communities.

Delegates and innovators from across Africa gathered at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village to share community-led solutions in agriculture, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

A Platform Rooted in Local Excellence

Organized by the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) in partnership with the Government of Rwanda, the exchange drew support from leading organizations including the Africa NGOs Alliance for Environmental Sustainability (ANAES), AUDA-NEPAD, Bezos Earth Fund, Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA), Livelihoods Fund, and Reforest’Action.

Each showcased cooperative had earned its place through a rigorous selection process, ensuring the event highlighted the best of agroecology, biodiversity protection, and nature-based innovation. Stalls brimmed with displays of organic farming techniques, reforestation models, and climate-smart community projects — all designed, tested, and led by locals.

“We are proud to host this exchange, bringing together groups from 19 African countries — each sharing their unique stories, innovations, and solutions,” said Philippe Kwitonda, Director General in Charge of Land, Water and Forestry at Rwanda’s Ministry of Environment.

“This platform is more than an exhibition. It’s a celebration of peer learning, cultural exchange, and collective inspiration — where Africa learns from Africa.”

Beyond Dialogue: From Challenges to Action

Panel discussions and interactive sessions addressed the continent’s most pressing challenges — limited financing, market barriers, and the ever-intensifying climate crisis. Yet the tone was not one of despair, but of determination.

Participants proposed bold, community-centered strategies — from leveraging private-sector partnerships to integrating traditional ecological knowledge into national development frameworks.

“This exchange proves that communities are not waiting to be helped — they are leading with courage, knowledge, and innovation,” emphasized Dr. Sam Kanyamibwa, Founder and CEO of ARCOS.
“What we see here in Kigali is a blueprint for a sustainable Africa, shaped by its own people and powered by collective wisdom.”

Recognizing Africa’s Changemakers

The exchange culminated in a vibrant awards ceremony honoring outstanding cooperatives and innovators in both emerging and advanced categories. Winners received financial and technical support to scale up their initiatives, with projects ranging from climate-smart agriculture to community-led forest restoration.

All participants joined in signing a Joint Resolution on Collaboration and Resilience, reaffirming their shared commitment to building a future where Africa’s natural wealth is protected and its people thrive in harmony with nature.

As the applause faded and the Kigali sun dipped below the hills, one sentiment echoed across the conference hall — that Africa’s solutions lie within Africa itself.

A Vision Beyond Kigali

The Africa Community-to-Community Exchange 2025 is more than an event — it is a growing movement. Its impact will ripple far beyond Rwanda, nurturing a continent-wide network of eco-innovators, cooperatives, and change-makers determined to reshape Africa’s sustainable destiny.

Through shared learning, bold partnerships, and unwavering belief in the power of community, Africa’s journey toward a greener, more resilient future is already underway — and it begins from the ground up.
