The European Union has intensified its position on Rwanda’s alleged involvement in the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), further straining diplomatic relations between Brussels and Kigali.
EU officials have expressed concerns over reports linking Rwanda to support for armed groups operating in eastern Congo, calling for accountability and a de-escalation of hostilities. The move comes amid growing international pressure for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Rwanda, however, has rejected these accusations, arguing that the narrative being pushed unfairly singles out Kigali while ignoring broader regional dynamics. “We will not accept a selective and biased approach to this complex situation,” a Rwandan government spokesperson stated.
The conflict in eastern Congo has fueled a humanitarian crisis, displacing thousands and worsening regional instability. The EU’s firm stance signals a shift in policy that could lead to diplomatic and economic consequences for Rwanda if tensions persist.
As discussions continue, the international community is urging both Rwanda and the DRC to engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation and work toward a lasting resolution.
